Our Voices for Now Sustained
A few years back, I had the opportunity to set six poems from Claudia Emerson's Pulitzer-winning book Late Wife, a transformative tome about one woman's survival in an abusive relationship, her escape, her healing, and finding gentle love on the other side. Ms. Emerson was then a colleague at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I'm heartbroken to tell you she passed away a few years back from cancer.
I was fortunate to have an incredible set of undergraduate musicians that year and a wonderful faculty colleague, Kathy Ahearn, who beautifully performed the soprano solo.
The ensemble is: 2 flutes, Bb clar., alto sax, bassoon, 3 percussion, cello.
The set is also available for soprano, Bb clar., piano, percussion, cello.
Please contact me for performance opportunities. You'll find my contact info with a few simple internet searches.
Thank you is needed for the wonderful musicians, former students now colleagues, all of whom have gone on to fascinating and diverse careers: Natalie Sayth and Amanda White, flute; Lindsey Cosgrove, clarinet; Jeremey Cooper, alto sax; Emily Fornoff, bassoon; Ross Marshall, Andy Breivik, Jeff Zeiders, percussion; Emily Forsyth-Queen, cello.
